We consider our horses as team members. They inspire us daily to help this project grow. We hope we can inspire others by sharing our philosophy.
HOW Mario & Milko became
members of the herD

Mario and Milko, the founders of Quinta da Lua Nova, are the most gentle and attentive hosts to our herd. Watching them walk with the horses, it’s hard to believe they had no experience with horsekeeping.
It’s beautiful to see Mario offering Reiki to the horses or to hear Milko passionately sharing stories about the latest adventures and love affairs within the herd.

After each wildfire, Mario and Milko, -filled with hope and renewed energy - have worked tirelessly to rebuild their land. Thousands of trees were planted. However, the most recent wildfire was particularly devastating for these dedicated nature lovers, testing their resilience like never before.
Maintaining the land is incredibly time-consuming—planting new trees and protecting them from drought. Could they do it all over again?
Perhaps, if part of the maintenance could be taken over by horses. That is how Quinta da Lua Nova became the home of our project.
The first year demanded time and investments and was filled with trial and errors.
But today, Mario and Milko have become the two legged members of the herd, together they create a beautiful and safe space for all.

From daydreams to
healing with horses

As a little girl, Linde dreamt of horses , horses and horses ....and becoming a teacher.
Perhaps all that daydreaming made her a rather average student, and by the time she turned 18, she set aside her teaching ambitions to study communications. Her first career began at the Brussels Government and she ended as a consultant for a prominent chemical company.
Her two young daughters reignited her passion for teaching. This led her back to school, first as a student and later as a teacher. Unfortunately, health challenges prompted yet another career shift—this time toward her greatest love: horses.
Back to school, earning a postgraduate degree in Equicoaching.

In 2022, she made a bold move, bringing her horses to Portugal, Travancinha—the very place where she had learned to ride more than 30 years earlier.
The village had suffered devastating wildfires in the last 30 years and ....
it happend again 6 months after her arrival in Portugal.
It was a traumatic experience, yet one that taught Linde a profound lesson: her herd was the most reliable and supportive community she had ever been a part of..
This realization became a driving force behind the mission of Cavalos Bombeiros: to share the exemplary social cohesion between horses and their healing power.
The herd

Observing the herd is the best way to truly get to know our horses. Their personalities evolve through their membership, and the dynamics of the group are shaped by each member. While outsiders may not immediately recognise the roles and interactions, watching them as a team reveals their unique qualities.
